Jancis Robinson 16/2052% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Black core with narrow purple rim. Dark and attractively spicy, almost a touch savoury, on the nose. There's rich fruit, plenty of spice and a sense of crushed rocks on the palate, giving lively but finely dry texture to wrap round the ripe but not too sweet fruit. Noticeable oak on the finish, a bit charry, but a rich and powerful wine that still has some freshness to balance all that lovely fruit. The tannins are firm but polished and chocolate-smooth. Lisa Perrotti-Brown. Deep garnet-purple, the 2018 Fonreaud is a little cedary to start, opening out to expressive notions of wild blueberries, black plums and cassis with hints of fragrant earth and tobacco. The medium to full-bodied palate is wearing the wood in its chewy texture, with loads of earth-sparked black fruit and a peppery kick to the finish.
