From the Chanfreau family's flagship property in Listrac, the 2021 Fonréaud reveals aromas of smoky berries, licorice and toasty new oak, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and somewhat compact palate. Spritzy on the tongue, the strawberry, raspberry and red cherry fruit has a brilliant energy, not too high acid or too weak, just gentle and nicely persistent giving an even presentation and push from start to the finish. I like the texture here, it's smooth and gentle, a calm wine with plenty to like and an easy drinkability to it and the bright red fruit flavours are so appealing. Well presented with a hint of stalky, bramble and cedar touches on the finish. Georgie Hindle
